PLEASANT GROVE, Utah – A school for students on the Autism spectrum or with specialized learning needs celebrated Saturday as they opened an expansion for high school students.

The Spectrum Academy launched their kindergarten through eighth grade school two years ago, and Saturday they opened their new high school campus.

The campus will welcome 250 students in grades 9-12, according to a press release, and it also features vocational and transitional training for students up to age 23.

Saturday’s festivities included a ribbon cutting as well as the school’s inaugural “Autos for Autism” show, which featured classic cars, trucks and motorcycles. The show also included vendor booths, sensory friendly activities for kids and raffles and giveaways.

All proceeds raised by Autos for Autism will be dedicated to classroom education and expanding the school’s Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math program: S.T.E.A.M.

“We're trying to raise money for technology and other things that the students need in the classroom,” said Kristen Wilson, the assistant principal for elementary-age students at Spectrum Academy. “This is our first one, so we're trying it out and seeing how it goes, and we hope this is an event that will continue every year.”
