SIERRA LEONE, Africa — Four missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were injured in a car accident in Africa, officials confirmed Saturday.

On Wednesday, the missionaries and Brother Marcus Wallace of the Sierra Leone Freetown Mission in Africa were traveling together when their van was hit by another vehicle attempting to pass a truck on the highway, according to a press release from the LDS Church.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the missionaries died.

Two of the missionaries were taken by air ambulance to Ghana for more treatment. The other two missionaries are recovering in Sierra Leone. Church officials say one of the missionaries has been released and is recovering well.

The missionaries have been identified as Elder Luke P. Dunn, of Salt Lake City; Elder Nicklaus M. Spaulding, from Nibley; Elder Augustine Biney-Amissah, from Breman Asikuma, Ghana; and Elder Isaac Boateng, from Moree, Ghana.

“We request the prayers and faith of all in behalf of these missionaries and their families,” the release states.

A GoFundMe account has been set up for Elder Dunn.
