TOOELE COUNTY, Utah — Investigators with the Utah Highway Patrol are looking for a suspect after a man was beaten with a baseball bat at a view area in Tooele County Friday morning.

According to Trooper Ronny Corona, UHP, it happened around 5 a.m. at a view area along westbound I-80 near mile marker 100.

A representative for UHP said the victim said he had been sleeping in his car when another man approached the vehicle and asked him for money. The victim refused, and the other man came back later with a baseball bat and started beating him.

The victim walked into the Flying J, where a 911 was placed. He was taken by a helicopter to a hospital.

"The injuries that he sustained were pretty significant," Corona said. "He was conscious, breathing and alert when he left and was transported."

Troopers said the victim has recently moved from Arizona to Utah and was planning to start a new job in Salt Lake City on Monday.

The suspect is described as a white male with a heavy-set build. He was wearing a black jacket and a black headband.

Anyone with information that may help with the investigation is urged to call UHP. The phone number for UHP's Tooele County dispatch center is 435-882-5600.
