WENDOVER — A Tooele County man suffered fatal injuries in a single vehicle crash in Wendover Wednesday night, and police are investigating alcohol and excessive speed as potential contributing factors in the crash.

According to a press release from the West Wendover Police Department in Nevada, officers responded to the 300 block of Airport Way around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A vehicle was found resting on its top south of the road, and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased was identified as 21-year-old Juan Carlos Gallo. Police state the man’s ID indicated he lived in the portion of Wendover located on the Utah side of the border.

Police determined the vehicle was westbound on Airport Way when the vehicle drifted off the road to the north. The driver over-corrected, causing the vehicle to cross both travel lanes and exit the roadway to the south.

Police stated the vehicle went through a fence before, “vaulting one time, coming to rest on its top.”

Gallo was not wearing a seat belt. Police state excessive speed and alcohol use are being investigated as possible factors in the crash.

Police stated: “The West Wendover Police Department wants to remind all occupants of any vehicle to buckle up as we continue our enforcement/education efforts on unrestrained, distracted and impaired drivers.”
