SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah may not actually be a swing state, but it's closer than it's been in over 50 years, and Hillary Clinton's campaign is noticing.

Marlon Marshall, Director of State Campaigns for Clinton told Bloomberg Politics they are considering devoting more resources to the Beehive State.

"Are we gonna win Utah? I don't know, but is it something we'll look at? Yeah, we'll take a look," Marshall said.

Key evidence that Utah is getting real focus: Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton each penned opinion pieces for the Deseret News.

Jason Perry, Director of the Hinckley Institute at the University of Utah, doesn't think Utah is likely to switch allegiance from the Republican Party, but he thinks it's smart of the Democratic candidate to put effort into the Deseret News editorial.

"Really the reason she wrote it in my opinion is every time she gets Donald Trump to focus on the state of Utah, every time she gets him to spend a dollar in the state in terms of publicity or advertising or to acknowledge in a meeting that maybe he's not doing as well here as maybe he could, that's a win for her," Perry said.
