MORGAN COUNTY, Utah -- Search and rescue crews have recovered the body of a man who drowned at East Canyon Reservoir Saturday after he swam out to try to help a struggling child.

The victim was later identified as 34-year-old Ismael Segundo of Salt Lake County.

Search and rescue personnel at the scene said Segundo was at the reservoir with his girlfriend and her two children, and they were fishing on the shore when the accident occurred.

One of the children went out on the reservoir to swim but began to struggle. The child's mother, the second child and Segundo swam out to offer help. Everyone except for Segundo made it back to shore.

A dive team was brought in to assist in the search efforts. Morgan County Sheriff's Office and Utah State Parks personnel were on scene, and two State Parks boats equipped with sonar were searching the area.

Segundo's body was found around 9 p.m. about 20 feet from the shore in water about 20-feet deep.

The medical examiner will now try to determine why Segundo didn't make it back to shore.
