Sgt. Trudy Crooper, with West Valley City Police Department, shared a few dos and don'ts that will help keep you safe and help out your neighborhood.

To start off lighting is very important to help lower crime. The very simple and first thing law enforcement is asking people to do is to keep their front porch lights on all night. You are then encouraged to install motion sensor lights on your other doors. It is very easy for someone to commit a crime and get away with it in the dark rather that with a clear light on them. The lights seen will be given out at the wrap up party for National Night Out Against Crime on August 31st. The party is happening at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center from 5:30 - 8:00pm.

Secondly, you are encouraged to install cameras. There have been many instances where a camera has been able to catch the license plate or face of a person committing a crime or even catch the license plate of a car that was involved in a crime down the street.
