PITCHER FAMILY OF WEST JORDAN IS 100-DAY 2016 MY HEART CHALLENGE: FAMILY EDITION WINNER
For the past 100 days, eight Utah families have been working with experts from the Intermountain Medical Center Heart Institute in Murray to see which family could improve their heart health the most as part of the 2016 My Heart Challenge: Family Edition. Today, it was announced that  winning family was the Pitcher family from West Jordan.

The annual My Heart Heart Challenge, sponsored by the Intermountain Medical Center Heart Institute, is a 100-day program to help participants strengthen their hearts by improving their lifestyles and reducing their risk of developing heart disease.

The eight families have received coaching and counseling from cardiac experts at the Intermountain Medical Center Heart Institute – including exercise specialists, dietitians, and heart experts –  to help them make positive, long-lasting healthy changes to their lives.

Each of the participating families has worked to make changes that, they hope, will collectively improve their overall health for the future. During the 100-day My Heart Challenge, families were awarded points for doing things like exercising, lowering their cholesterol levels, eating fruits and vegetables, planning community events to raise awareness about heart health and more.

The families went through health assessments and testing at the beginning of the 100-day My Heart Challenge and then again last week to measure their overall improvement.

Salt Lake Valley moms, firefighters, school principals and elected officials from across the Salt Lake Valley have taken part in previous editions of the My Heart Challenge.

Sponsors of the 2016 My Heart Challenge included: Fox 13, SelectHealth and Boondocks Food & Fun.
