Teen drowns while attending family reunion at Otter Creek State Park

PIUTE COUNTY, Utah — A 17-year-old boy who was attending a family reunion at Otter Creek State Park drowned Saturday after swimming too near a culvert, where strong currents pulled him in.

According to a press release from the Piute County Sheriff’s Office, 17-year-old Chase Leroy Clark and several others were swimming in the river below the dam when the accident occurred.

Chase swam near a culvert that runs under the roadway, and he was pulled into the culvert by the strong current. Those who were in the area with Chase tried to rescue him but were not able to free him from the culvert.

The teen’s body was recovered later, but efforts to revive him were not successful. Police said the teen was attending a family reunion when the death occurred.

The sheriff’s office stated on Facebook they wish to, “express our condolences to the family of Chase Leroy Clark, the young man who drown[ed] near Otter Creek Reservoir dam. Our deepest sympathies for your loss.”
