Big Budah’s blog: Remembering life lessons and fitting in at a soccer match

I have been hampered by a hip injury lately, making it extremely difficult to exercise during the past three weeks. I have been staying active, however, by participating with my kids in their summer fun activities.

This week alone we have been to Boondocks, Flowrider and Airborne. We even took in our very first ever RSL game together as a family. Truth be told, I may have lost weight, but I have been and continue to be self-conscious about fitting in to stadium seating. But, it turns out, I fit just fine.

One highlight for me this week was being able to watch the movie “Three Wise Cousins”, which was directed by Stallone Vaiaoga-Ioasa. I won’t give it away, but it is very similar to my life story when I moved to live in Samoa, and my two cousins, who I call my brothers, taught me everything that Mose and Tavita taught Adam in the movie.

To be able to see and relive the daily struggles through cinema was both a reaffirmation of how far I have come and how grateful I am for everything I have and have worked for. To that I say: Thank you to my parents for instilling in me a willingness to do hard work and a “don’t quit” mindset.

Big props to my wise cousins Kapeneta & Palemia. Faafetai le alofa ma le magaku aiga.

Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support. Click here to follow my Losing for Life journey from the beginning.
