RIVERTON, Utah — Riverton City has temporarily shut off their secondary water system due to concerns about toxic algae at Utah Lake.
State health officials are testing the water regularly to monitor the situation after a toxic algae bloom prompted a closure of the entire lake. At least eight people who recently visited the lake have reported feeling ill.
Riverton City stated Saturday that because the lake serves as a source for their secondary water supply, they are temporarily shutting off the irrigation water as the algae situation continues to be monitored.
The city states they have received no reports of safety issues associated with the secondary water, but they said they were shutting the system down as a precaution.
