SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah National Guard is ready to continue sending troops to Afghanistan after hearing President Barack Obama announce troop numbers will remain close to present levels through his term.

Brigadier General Dallen Atack, Assistant Adjutant General of the Utah National Guard, says the Utah Guard has specialized units that continue to be in demand.

“Based on the missions that President Obama spoke on today, my expectation is that we will continue to support the combatant commanders with intelligence, aviation and special operations,” Atack said.

Utah currently has 160 National Guard troops serving in Afghanistan.
