SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah — Search and rescue crews responded to the Lisa Falls area of Little Cottonwood Canyon Wednesday after an 18-year-old woman fell about 50 feet and suffered serious injuries.

According to Unified Police, the victim fell and lost consciousness around 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Abigail Ward. She was taken to a hospital and put into a medically induced coma, with head injuries and internal injuries.

The woman was hiking in the area with her younger brother, and had left the trail.

Lieutenant Lex Bell with Unified Police said Ward was working her way across a ledge near the waterfall when she slipped, landing in a boulder field with shallow water.

She’s listed in serious condition. Lt. Bell said it could be days before doctors figure out if she’ll recover.
