SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Centerville City is settling a lawsuit related to an officer-involved shooting in April 2014.

Officers responded to a 911 call where a Molly Farrand claimed her husband was upset and in possession of a gun.

Police tried to negotiate with the man, who had a gun, for some time before the man allegedly pointed a gun at police.

An officer then shot Farrand’s husband, who died.

An investigation done by the Davis County Attorney’s office concluded the officer’s use of force was justified.

Molly Farrand filed a lawsuit against Centerville City on March 25, 2016 seeking over $2 million in damages and the lawsuit reached a settlement on Friday for $127,000.

Centerville City’s attorney, Heather White said, “the settlement was reached as a result of the City’s insurance carrier’s opinion that it was less expensive, and in the taxpayers’ interest, to settle rather than engage in a long and expensive legal fight.”

White went on to say, “Some citizens may be frustrated that the City didn’t fight the allegations in Court, but the City agreed the settlement would be in the best interests of the City’s taxpayers.”
