Financial expert Rachel Langlois from Cyprus Credit Union tells us about how to save big while traveling. For more great information, go here.

  • Souvenirs: give each child a budget, put it in an envelope and allow them to spend it on what they'd like.
  • Food: Look for hotels with free breakfast or stop at a grocery store to purchase filling breakfast items. Bring your own high-protein snacks during the day. Some grocery outlets even have free delivery. Make lunch the largest meal as it is often cheaper. Consider looking online at Groupon or Yelp to see if any nearby deals.
  • Activities: research online (TripAdvisor), especially daily deal sites such as Groupon or LivingSocial. See if you have member perks through your credit union or other organizations you belong to. Many cities also have free walking tours that work on tips. Check local sites, such as the newspaper, radio or TV stations for event calendars to check for free community events. You can find a local calendar of events on Fox 13's website here.
