DUCHESNE COUNTY, Utah — A man from Colorado was killed in Duchesne County Friday after he went into the road to get his dog and both were fatally struck by a northbound vehicle.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 5:21 a.m. Friday on SR-191 near mile post 285, which is near the city of Duchesne.

Timothy A. Reed, 64 of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, had stopped for an unknown reason. As his truck and trailer were pulled to the side of the road, his black lab mix dog ran into traffic. The pair was struck by a northbound Ford Focus.

“It appears that he tried to save the dog but was killed on impact,” UHP stated of Reed.

Reed was traveling in Utah on business.

Based on the evidence and information currently available, UHP states charges will not be filed against the driver of the vehicle that struck Reed and his dog.
