UDOT workers witness moose give birth to calf on Guardsman Pass

BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON, Utah — Road crews witnessed the birth of a moose calf while clearing Guardsman Pass Friday.

Workers with Utah Department of Transportation were preparing the mountain road for opening before Memorial Day when they saw they the adult female moose.

Every year, John Gleason, UDOT spokesman, said crews clear passes for late spring and summer recreational use.

The moose and her calf have since moved on and Guardsman Pass will open Wednesday.
