SALT LAKE CITY — The Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest has proposed a fee program for day-use sites in Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons.

The fee would mean users need to pay $6 for a 3-day pass or $45 for a Cottonwood Canyons annual pass.

All passes sold would be valid for any of the following sites: Mill B South trailhead, Donut Falls trailhead, Silver Lake recreation complex, Spruces winter trailhead, Guardsman Pass trailhead, Temple Quarry trailhead and interpretive site, White Pine trailhead, Catherine’s Pass trailhead and Cecret Lake trailhead.

The Cottonwood Canyons pass would also be valid at the American Fork Canyon and Mirror Lake Scenic Byway standard-amenity fee sites. Passes from American Fork Canyon, Mirror Lake Scenic Byway and the “America the Beautiful” Interagency Pass will be honored at the Cottonwood Canyons site locations.

Fee amounts are assessed based on the level of amenities and services provided, market assessment and cost of operations and maintenance.

Fees collected from the day-use sites would be used toward the improvement of recreation site facilities, maintenance and operations in the Cottonwood Canyons.
