ZION NATIONAL PARK – If you see smoke or fire at Zion National Park over the next few days, chances are there is no need for concern.
Authorities have announced a series of five small prescribed fires over 21 acres this spring.
Officials said the burns will be near Zion Lodge and the main park visitor center.
The first of these burns is planned on or after May 23.
Exact dates of the burns will depend on predicted weather conditions, current fuel conditions and availability of resources.
Officials said these burns are to get rid of fire hazard vegetation and make conditions safer for everyone.
These burns are also an effort to restore perennial grasses.
Visitors may see smoke and temporary traffic and trail restrictions during the burns.
