LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON, Utah — Search and rescue crews who were looking for a 77-year-old man in Little Cottonwood Canyon located the man early Sunday morning.

Unified PD says search and rescue crews who “refused to go home” located the elderly man around 3 a.m.

Lt. Lex Bell, Unified Police Department, said the man was hiking the White Pine Lake Trail and was supposed to be home around 11 a.m., but he had not been seen or heard from since earlier Saturday when he was separated from a group.

A Life Flight helicopter assisted in the search efforts, which began sometime around 6 p.m. Saturday.

Authorities said the man was hiking with a group when he started to lag behind. He told the others to go on ahead, but they did not encounter the man on their way back down after reaching their destination.

Authorities did not release the identity of the overdue hiker. FOX 13 News will have more information as it becomes available.
