PAGE, Ariz. — Search and Rescue personnel recovered the body of a man from Montana who drowned near Lone Rock in Lake Powell.

Allen Robert Delay, 51 of Lewiston, Montana, went overboard while paddling on an inflatable kayak Thursday.

According to a press release Kane County Sheriff’s Office, Delay was on a camping trip to Lone Rock Beach with his wife. When the wind picked up, Delay went overboard. He was not wearing a life jacket.

Other campers nearby heard his calls for help, but the man went under the water before a rescue could be undertaken.

High winds hampered the search both Thursday and Friday, and a dive team located the body using sonar gear. Just before 7 p.m. Friday, crews recovered Delay from a depth of 74 feet using a remote operated vehicle.

The body will be transported to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office.

The search was in the Kane County, Utah portion of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.

The press release states: “All boaters are reminded to be aware of changing weather conditions and wear life jackets when boating and recreating on or around water.”
