Hallstrom was arrested Thursday at his home after he allegedly stabbed his father, Calvin Leon Hallstrom, 58, in the neck.

Cache County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the home that evening on a report of an altercation. When they arrived, deputies found Calvin Hallstrom in the driveway bleeding profusely from the neck, authorities say.

Calvin Hallstrom was taken to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Smithfield police officers said they found Shane Hallstrom kneeling in the roadway, feet away from his dad. Officers took the 25-year-old in for questioning and later arrested him on suspicion of murder.

The death comes seven months after Shane Hallstrom’s sister committed suicide by stepping into traffic in Logan. Before her death, Ashley Hallstrom published a letter describing her experiences as a transgender woman. The letter later went viral.
