Suspect in custody after SWAT responds to South Salt Lake home

UPDATE: Police say the man who barricaded himself inside the home has been taken into custody. Roads are re-opening in the area as of around 5 p.m.

SOUTH SALT LAKE — A portion of 300 East is closed in South Salt Lake as SWAT personnel respond to an armed man who is barricaded inside of a residence near 3000 South.

Police at the scene said 300 East is blocked from 2890 South to 2030 South and bus traffic has been diverted as a result.

Emergency responders were called to the home on report of an overdose, and when crews arrived a man with a gun fired at least one shot. It is not immediately clear if the shot was aimed at anyone or if there were any injuries.

The man has barricaded himself in the home, and police are working to determine if there is anyone else inside. Negotiators are speaking with the man in an attempt to reach a peaceful resolution.

The incident occurred in the area of 3000 South and 300 East. FOX 13 News first heard report of the incident around 2:20 p.m.
