ST. GEORGE, Utah — A woman has been booked into jail for charges that include fleeing from police and assault on a police officer after she allegedly struck a Utah Highway Patrol trooper while resisting arrest Sunday.

Trooper Cameron Roden of the Utah Highway Patrol said a trooper made a traffic stop on a white Lincoln Navigator in the area of Dixie Drive in St. George around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

The trooper identified the driver as Amber Patten, who had a warrant out for her arrest. After calling for backup, the trooper notified Patten of the warrant and attempted to arrest her.

The woman struggled and then fled on foot, and the trooper chased her on foot for about a block. Once he caught up with her, the woman continued to struggle and at one point she allegedly struck the trooper in the face.

The trooper did not require medical treatment, according to Roden.

Patten was ultimately subdued and taken into custody. She was booked into jail for the existing warrant as well as for fleeing from police and for assault on a police officer. Roden wasn’t certain what the original warrant for the woman’s arrest related to.
