SPRINGVILLE, Utah -- A 19-year-old man wanted in a hit-and-run accident that injured two Springville police officers was arrested in Salt Lake City, Saturday night.

At about 11:30 p.m., a tip came in that Corbin Chandler Decker was in the area of North Temple and 800 West, according to Salt Lake City police.

When officers responded, they found Decker walking in the area, said Lt. James Tracy with Salt Lake City police.

Decker was taken into custody and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on an outstanding warrant and providing officers false personal information.

Adult Probation and Parole brought Decker back to Utah County Sunday morning. The Springville man had been staying in the Salt Lake/Ogden area for the past week.

On March 26, Decker hit and injured two Springville police officers while fleeing from authorities in a stolen vehicle.

The incident started at about 8:52 a.m., when officers responded to a suspicious vehicle parked in a driveway in the area of 860 East and Hillcrest. As one of the officers approached, he observed that the windows were covered so he couldn’t see inside the car, according to court documents filed in Fourth District Court, Friday.

The officer went to the passenger window and noticed two men inside the car.

“He gave commands to both through the partially open window to exit the vehicle. They refused the orders, and the officer drew his service weapon,” according to court documents.

At that point the driver, later identified as Decker, reached passed the passenger and did something to the door then started the car, court documents indicate.

At that point, the officer moved to the front of the vehicle so both occupants could see him.

The officer continued to ask the Decker and the passenger, later identified as 20-year-old Christopher Damron, to stop what they were doing.

“The defendant then accelerated towards the officer, and the officer was struck and caught on the front part of the car and was pushed backwards down the driveway,” according to court documents.

The officer was able to free himself. He ended up falling to the ground after being pushed down the driveway 30 feet.

Court documents indicate the officer got up and chased after the car. Another Springville police officer was at the bottom of the driveway to assist.

According to court documents, Decker didn’t vary his direction and struck the second officer.

“This officer was flipped over the hood and into the vehicle’s windshield, where the officer struck his face and head causing multiple broken bones and extreme pain,” documents indicates. “The force of the contact then caused the officer to fly over the top of the vehicle clearing it by eight feet.”

Decker left the scene.

The vehicle was later found abandoned. Damron was also soon located.

According to court documents, Damron admitted to officers he and Decker were shooting up Methamphetamine at the time the officer approached.

Decker has been charged with attempted aggravated murder, aggravated assault, theft by receiving stolen property, two counts of failure to stop at a serious injury accident, obstruction of justice and failure to respond to an officer’s commands.

Damron was charged with theft by receiving stolen property and obstruction of justice.
