SALT LAKE CITY - The weekend sessions of the General Conference of the LDS Church wrapped up Sunday afternoon, and the final message delivered to those in attendance was one that many had hoped to hear about.

"There are an estimated 60 million refugees in the world today," said Elder Patrick Kearon of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. "One in 122 humans has been forced to flee their homes, and half are children."

For many, the message came at a relevant time, though Elder Kearon didn't make a reference to a specific topic.

"I think we should help them," said one person in attendance. "I think we all need to step up."

The message on refugees came after President Thomas S. Monson announced four new temples would be built in the following locations: Harare, Zimbabwe; Quito, Ecuador; Belem, Brazil; and a second in Lima, Peru.

"When I became part of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in 1963, there were 12 operating temples in the entire church," President Monson said. "There are now 150 temples.”

It was the recent dedication of the Provo City Center Temple that brought the total of temples currently in operation up to 150.

“How grateful we are for the blessings we receive in these holy houses,” Monson said.
