PROVO, Utah — Provo City took to Facebook and Twitter Friday with some seemingly big news, and the headline read “The Notebook 2 to be Filmed in Provo, Utah–O’Reilly Post.”
On both Facebook and Twitter, the city promoted the story on their official channels. However, fans of the original film shouldn’t get excited.
The website Provo City links to in their posts states in their about section that, “O’Reilly Post is a fantasy news site. All news articles on oreillypost.com are satire or pure fantasy.”
FOX 13 News reached out to Provo City to see if they were duped by the satire or if they were merely perpetuating the prank for April Fools’ Day. Cory Norman, a public information officer for Provo City, confirmed they were aware the post was satire and said it was all just a prank.
According to a piece published by Snopes.com on March 9, Provo isn’t the only city to be named as a fictitious host city for the film by a fake news website. The hoax debunking website states a sequel is not in the works and no plans for one have been announced.
