WOODS CROSS, Utah – After months of groundwork, a retail development in Woods Cross is ready for construction.

The Woods Crossing development is located at 2600 South and Wildcat Way. City officials have been planning the project for about a year, and said it’s exciting to be at a point where buildings will go up.

“We’re putting a public plaza place on there,” said Woods Cross City Administrator Gary Uresk. “There will be a waterfall, a clock tower, so we’re hoping to make it a nice place where people come in and enjoy shopping and the amenities there.”

The multi-million dollar complex will include a Smith’s grocery store, and several other retail shops, all within walking distance.

Developer John Thackery said it’s a model that’s gaining popularity across the state, with similar projects going on in Layton, Draper and Centerville.

“We try to establish a sense of gathering place,” Thackery said. “We try to have a proximity from the major tenants to the rest of the retail stores, a person and park their car and walk from amenities.”

It’s a very visible site just off of Interstate 15. Thackery said they already have either signed or committed leases for the majority of the retail spaces.

“Construction will start immediately,” Thackery said. “Smith’s will start building their building. We still have some site work to do on the rest of our buildings, the water feature, the plaza.”

Final plans will be presented to the city council later this month. Construction on the project is expected to be complete by November 2016.
