SALT LAKE CITY — A new court filing indicates that attorneys in the name dispute lawsuit between San Diego Comic-Con and Salt Lake Comic Con may be closer to reaching a settlement.

In a filing this week in federal court in San Diego, lawyers for San Diego Comic-Con asked for deadline extensions, telling the court they wished to keep working on a potential settlement.

From the court filing:

comic con

Details of the settlement talks were not included in the filing, nor in minutes from that conference held in November.

San Diego Comic-Con is suing Dan Farr Productions, which puts on the wildly popular Salt Lake Comic Con, over the use of the words “comic con.” Last year, Salt Lake Comic Con got a trademark for its name and has claimed that a number of other events use “comic con.”

In October, Salt Lake Comic Con organizers confirmed to FOX 13 they had entered into settlement negotiations.
