HEBER, Utah — Unified Police arrested a man Sunday after he allegedly kidnapped and repeatedly threatened his estranged wife.

According to a probable cause statement, Gilverto Alvarado-Hernandez called his wife and arranged to meet for dinner. The woman agreed and they met at an address in Midvale.

Police said the woman got in Alvarado-Hernandez’s vehicle and he sped away, but he wasn’t stopping at any restaurants. The victim reported Alvarado got on the freeway and drove “up canyons.”

“Now you’re going to see what is going to happen to you,” Alvarado-Hernandez allegedly told the victim. The woman reported Alvarado-Hernandez told her several times that she will see what will happen to her.

Alvarado-Hernandez also tried to take the victim’s phone, but she held it in a bag close to her abdomen, the statement said.

The victim had surgery three days before the incident and the struggle to keep her phone caused her surgery wound to open up, making her nauseous, the statement said.

Police said the victim opened her door and considered jumping out of the moving vehicle, but the car was traveling too fast.

The victim was able to send a text message to a friend, who called 911. Officials pinged the woman’s phone, which showed she was on Highway 40 near Heber. Utah Highway Patrol stopped the vehicle and took Alvarado-Hernandez into custody.

The victim was taken to Heber Hospital for treatment of her injury. Alvarado-Hernandez faces a first-degree felony charge of aggravated kidnapping.
