SALT LAKE CITY — A House committee has unanimously voted to approve a bill that adds an “In God We Trust” license plate to those available to vehicle owners in Utah.
Under House Bill 127, “In God We Trust” would join the Ski Utah! and Delicate Arch as the standard license plates available. It has previously been available only as a specialty license plate. Lawmakers noted that it was the third-highest selling specialty plate behind one for vintage cars and one for the University of Utah.
At Tuesday’s hearing, no one spoke in opposition to the bill. Representatives from United Families International and the Utah Eagle Forum supported it, saying it celebrates religious freedom.
The bill will now go to the full House for consideration.
