SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Highway Patrol responded to more than 50 crashes and 10 slide offs since midnight after snow started to fly in Salt Lake County Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service, a winter weather advisory began at 8 p.m. Saturday and is expected to remain in effect until 10 a.m.

As of 6:30 a.m., it was estimated that 2 to 4 inches of snow had fallen in the valley floors and 5 to 10 inches had fallen in the mountains, said Pete Wilensky, lead forecaster at the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City.

The snow will begin to taper off at 10 a.m. While roads are snowpacked bad this morning, Wilensky said it should start to melt off later in the day.

The advisory applies to portions of northern Utah including Salt Lake City, Provo, Park City and Heber City as well as portions of west and central Utah, including Richfield, Manti and Delta.
