OREM, Utah – Officers have released dash camera video of a situation where a suspect rammed an Orem sergeant’s car and was then tazed and arrested.

According to Orem officers, they were following up on a police chase from a few days earlier involving a car that had been reported stolen.

Authorities ended the chase when it became too dangerous.

When they later checked a trailer park near 441 S. State St., officers saw the car and someone inside.

Officers approached the car and the suspect then rams Orem Sgt. Spieth’s cruiser.

The scuffle ensues from there and police have to taze the suspect to take him into custody.

Officers said what you do not see in the video is the scary part.

“What you won’t see or hear in the video is the suspect refusing to show his hands and you won’t see the handgun in his right hand. Pretty bad situation all around. Fortunately, for everyone involved it ended with the bad guy in jail and no one else hurt.

In talking with Sgt. Spieth, they didn’t see the gun until after he had been tazed. He saw it as he was pulling the suspect out of the passenger side door and Officer Winder was able to taze him one more time so that he couldn’t get control over the gun again.”

Orem officials said Shawn Canfield is now facing charges for Possession of a stolen vehicle, Evading, Resisting arrest, Possession of a firearm by a restricted person, Possession of a stolen firearm, Aggravated Assault, Criminal Mischief, Possession of Meth and Possession of drug paraphernalia.
