SALT LAKE CITY -- Students from Bountiful's Valley View Elementary School got a taste of college life Wednesday when they attended a lecture at the University of Utah.

The students visited the university's Henry Eyring Chemistry Building for a special lecture about several principles of chemistry.

"We hope that they develop a love for science, because I think a lot of times math and science classes are hard and so people, especially young kids, get scared of it and they think 'Oh, I don`t want to be a scientist it`s too hard.'," said Carter Jennings, a chemistry student at the university. "But stuff like this, especially for me, made me see it's fun even though it's challenging and it's worth it."

The lecture was an exclusive performance from the university's Faraday Lecture Series. The series is inspired by the 19th century scientist Michael Faraday, who began presenting his Christmas Lectures for Children in the 1820s.
