WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — West Valley City police are investigating why a man drove away rather than pull over for an officer who tried to stop him for having a broken headlight.
Police tried to stop 23-year-old Caleb Barrett Wednesday night around 10 p.m. They said he sped off, traveling west on 3800 S.
According to officers, Barrett drove around cars stopped at a red light at 2200 W and drove into the intersection, causing a crash with another car that was about to turn left.
“He came through the intersection and hit that vehicle head-on. The collision took him to the corner of the intersection. He impacted a light pole,” said Lt. Dalan Taylor, WVCPD.
Police said Barrett tried to flee when officers arrived, but his injuries from the crash prevented him from running.
Police are working to determine if Barrett had been driving a stolen vehicle and if he may have been driving under the influence. The woman in the other car involved in the crash suffered minor injuries.
