LOGAN, Utah -- Tanner Mangum threw four touchdowns to lead BYU to a 51-28 win over Utah State Saturday night in Logan.

Mangum threw for 284 yards to become the first BYU freshman quarterback to throw for more than 3,000 yards in a season.

It looked good for Utah State in the second quarter, as they built a 21-10 lead after a touchdown run from LaJuan Hunt and a touchdown pass from Chuckie Keeton to Hunter Sharpe.

But BYU scored 28 straight points to regain the lead and the momentum.

It started with a 72-yard touchdown pass from Mangum to Mitch Mathews. Then, Tomasi Laulile returned a fumble 37 yards for a touchdown on the final play of the first half to give BYU a 24-21 lead.

BYU’s run continued in the third quarter with another touchdown pass from Mangum to Mathews, and a touchdown run from Francis Bernard to give the Cougars a commanding 38-21 lead.

Mathews had 158 receiving yards and two touchdowns to tie a BYU season record with 11 touchdown catches.

Keeton threw for 243 yards, and his touchdown pass in the second quarter set a Utah State record with 61 career touchdown passes.

BYU ends the season with a 9-3 record. Utah State is 6-6.
