SALT LAKE CITY --- The Salt Lake City School District will now have a chance to improve their Community Learning Center program thanks to a grant that amounts to the largest single donation to a public school foundation in Utah history.

The grant of more than $3 million was announced Thursday at Lincoln Elementary School, and district representatives said the funds will go toward a new Community Learning Center that will provide health and social services to families who might not otherwise have access.

"Health services, dental services, eye services, also a full-size kitchen for the community to use so we can have events here,” explained Peggy Paterson, who is the Principal at Lincoln Elementary School. "So that they don't have to leave the school for some of those services, so that's what our Community Learning Center is."

The community learning center also provides resources for parents of students in need of urgent care. The announcement was made by the Salt Lake City School District and the Salt Lake Education Foundation. The grant is from the Ray and Tye Noorda Foundation.
