BEVERLY, Mass. -- A 47-year-old woman who went to a hospital for abdominal pain got quite a surprise when she learned that not only she was pregnant, but the baby was ready to be born.

WCVB's Jack Harper reports Judy Brown was feeling severe abdominal pain, so she called her husband, Jason, for a ride to a hospital.

After an exam, Judy said they got a surprise: "She said, 'Well, it's good news, you don't have any blockages or anything, you're pregnant' OK... 'And you are going to have her now.'"

About an hour later, the couple welcomed 8-pound Carolyn Rose into their family. Judy, 47, and James, 48, have been married for 22 years, and they said they had no idea Judy was pregnant.

"I feel I'm still gonna wake up in the emergency room  and feel.... Hey this is only a dream. It felt so real," James Brown said.

Judy had felt some changes in her body, but she assumed it was part of moving to the next stage of her life. She said she attributed the tummy bulge to becoming like her mother.

James said Carolyn is likely to be an only child, joking that he plans to pursue surgical options to prevent further unexpected pregnancies.
