BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah — An Oakley, Idaho man is dead after the dump truck he was driving crashed in Box Elder County late Friday night.

The accident occurred at about 10 p.m. on Cotton Thomas Road, between the small town of Lynn and Cotton Thomas Summit. Jason Hale, 37, was operating a freightliner 10-wheel dump truck, used in the rock quarry business American Stone, according to a press release from Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office.

Hale was traveling from Cotton Thomas Summit toward Lynn when the accident occurred. The truck appeared to be loaded at capacity. The release states Hale was being followed by his brother, David, in a private vehicle.

“He (David Hale) stated he believed that the brakes failed on the truck because it was going so fast,” the release states.
