MURRAY, Utah -- A man was hit and killed by a TRAX train in Murray Friday night after his motorized wheelchair became immobilized on the tracks while he and his girlfriend were attempting to move through a crossing.

The incident is in the area of 4500 South and 300 West in Murray, and FOX 13 News first heard reports of the crash just after 9 p.m.

Saturday, authorities identified the man who was killed as 61-year-old Donald Leroy Brown.

Lt. Alex Blauer, UTA Special Investigations, said Brown and his girlfriend were in the correct place and were not crossing against the signal, but he said that while they were attempting the cross the motorized wheelchair either lost power or became stuck on the tracks.

The pair was unable to get the wheelchair moving again. When a TRAX train approached, it did not have time to stop, Blauer said. Brown was hit by the train and suffered fatal injuries.

There were no other reports of injuries in connection with the crash.

UTA tweeted just after 9 p.m. that an incident had caused them to set up a bus bridge between Meadowbrook and Fashion Place Stations.
