SALT LAKE CITY – In August there were indications University of Utah and Brigham Young University would be extending their “Holy War” rivalry into 2019-2020, and Wednesday it was confirmed the Utes and Cougars will face off in the season opener of both the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

According to tweets from both schools, the 2019 game will be held in Provo and the 2020 game will take place in Salt Lake City.

The two teams were already scheduled to resume their rivalry games in the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 seasons after a hiatus from the long-standing tradition in the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

U of U Athletic Director Chris Hill had stated in August the two schools were close to working out a deal on a contract to keep the rivalry match-up going, and he said at that time there are also tentative discussions for the 2021-2022 season.

Both BYU and University of Utah were ranked in the Top 25 in Week 3 of the 2015-2016 season.
