SALT LAKE CITY — Making the Major League Soccer playoffs is expected for Real Salt Lake. They reached the postseason seven years in a row.

But that streak is in serious jeopardy.

The top six teams in the Western Conference standings advance to the playoffs and RSL is currently in ninth place, six points behind Seattle for the final playoffs with nine MLS matches to play in the regular season.

That makes RSL’s next match very important, when they host Seattle on Saturday.

Every game from here on out is the biggest game of the year,” said RSL defender Tony Beltran.  “This one just happens to be against Seattle, who chances are, we are going to be competing for that final playoff spot.  So, obviously it’s pivotal.  If we get a win we are in good position to make a run at them.  If not then the gap gets a little bigger, so yeah, absolutely it’s a huge game.”

RSL isn’t just chasing Seattle. RSL is tied with San Jose with 29 points, and they’re two points behind Houston.
