OREM, Utah – Last week, two Utah women were vying for the Top Ten on "So You Think You Can Dance”, which airs right here on FOX 13.

One Utahn advanced, while the other was sent home. But Alexia Meyer’s return to Orem was anything but sad.

Meyer almost made it into the top ten, but fell just short when she was eliminated this past Monday night and sent home.

About 60 or 70 of her friends and family members gathered at her home in Orem for a surprise homecoming.

They held signs with slogans like: "They think you can dance, We know you can."

"I was expecting just to go back home, go back to bed and crash on my bed and go to sleep, and so seeing everyone here and excited for me and supporting me even after it's over, means a lot,” Meyer said of the experience.

Meyer’s family said she is loved and admired in the neighborhood, so it was no surprise so many people turned out to welcome her home.

Family members said Alexia’s return was bittersweet.

"Thought was honestly, ‘I'm stoked to see my sister, it's sad to not see her go on,’ but I was extremely excited that I got to see her soon,” said Josh Meyer, Alexia’s brother.

Her father, Gary, also spoke about those mixed feelings.

"As far as being sad that she was eliminated from the show, it's just another opportunity, so, who knows what's in the future? We close one chapter and get ready to start a new one,” he said.

Alexia Meyer hopes the new chapter includes a role as an extra in the "So You Think You Can Dance" concert tour.

Besides that, she knows dance will always be a big part of her life.

“I would love to teach at a dance convention, competition, I’d love to be on Broadway, maybe the Radio City Christmas Spectacular would be my dream, so anything and everything,” she said.

And she is well on her way to advancing her dance career, as she attends Pace University in Manhattan and works on the weekends at the New York Dance Alliance.

There is still a Utah dancer in the top ten, and Hailee Payne of Roy could still win it all. You can see her next performance Monday at 7 p.m. on FOX 13 .
