PARK CITY – Friday marks 100 days until the official start of the ski season, and members of Ski Utah celebrated early at the Utah Olympic Park.

Resort representatives were present Friday to showcase deals on passes and get everyone excited for the coming winter.

They said they are hoping for more snowfall this year, after Salt Lake and surrounding areas had the least-snowy season on record and precipitation totals were low across the state.

Meteorologists with the National Weather Service said this coming El Nino could bring good news for the ski resorts.

“Because this is forecasted to be a strong El Nino, it increases the odds that southern Utah will have above normal precipitation and even favors the potential for above normal precipitation all the way into central and possibly northern Utah,” said Randy Graham, Meteorologist in Charge for the NWS.

The National Weather Service said there are no guarantees, as every El Nino is different.

Resort representatives said they are prepared for another mild winter. Resorts like Snowbird, Briaanhead and Park City have invested in advanced and energy-efficient snow-making equipment.
