SOUTHERN UTAH — The High Meadow Fire is burning on 1,240 acres about 55 miles southeast of St. George, and officials with the Bureau of Land Management said as of Saturday the fire is approximately 20 percent contained.

The fire began on July 14 and was caused by lightning, and it’s burning in the Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument portion of the BLM controlled area of the Arizona Strip.

Fire officials stated Saturday the weather has helped moderate fire activity.

“We’ve been getting rain showers and as a result, there is minimal fire activity today,” said Chet Hatch, a High Meadow Fire Incident Command Trainee. “Crews are taking advantage of the rain and continuing to mop up that north containment line to protect private property.”

Various resources are managing the fire, and four BLM roads are closed as a result: BLM 1768, 1775, 1802 and 1803. Officials state Mohave County Road 5 remains open but the public is urged to use caution due to the presence of fire vehicle traffic, equipment activity and occasional smoke.
