ALBANY, NY – A 4-year-old girl who is fighting cancer has become good pals with one of her nurses, so much so, she wanted to say her own version of “I do” to him.

Abby Sayles said she believes she has met her own knight in shining armor, only he wears hospital scrubs.

Matt Hickling is Abby’s nurse at Albany Medical Center’s Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer.

Her family said he has been by her side for the past year as she has battled pre-B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

The pair developed a deep bond and Abby decided it was time to pop the question.

“I sent him a text message just to give him a heads up that this was an idea that was in her head, just so he was not in shock,” Abby’s mother, Renee Sayles, said.

So how did Matt answer Abby?

“I had to be hard, to play had to get, and she was looking right at me with those eyes,” he said.

He couldn’t help but say yes and the hospital staff wasted no time.

A coworker stepped up to led Hickling a tuxedo t-shirt, the staff bought a few bouquets and put down an aisle of rose petals.

Without an organ, they improvised by humming “Here Comes The Bride.”

Abby’s mom said her daughter had a few setbacks in her recovery but her long-term prognosis is good.
