SLC Mayor sends email to residents on police chief’s ouster

SALT LAKE CITY — In an email to residents over the weekend, Mayor Ralph Becker defended his decision to ask for Police Chief Chris Burbank’s resignation over his handling of sexual harassment allegations within the department.

In an interview with FOX 13 last week, Burbank defended his decisions in the sexual harassment case involving his former deputy chief Rick Findlay. Meanwhile, an attorney for the three officers claiming sexual harassment said the city had failed to respond to a notice of claim and a lawsuit was likely pending.

Late Monday, interim Salt Lake City Police Chief Mike Brown released a statement of his own.
