BOUNTIFUL, Utah -The Utah Department of Transportation has finished work on a construction project to ease the flow of traffic in a busy part of Bountiful.

UDOT opened a new Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) early Monday morning at 500 South and I-15.  UDOT closed the on and off-ramps at 500 South as they installed the DDI configuration.  A video (below) shows how it works using an example from another DDI in American Fork.

Michelle Paxton, a Bountiful Resident told Fox 13 that the construction has been awful but hopes this change will make for a smoother commute.

Many drivers have been using 500 South as an alternate route while crews rebuild the bridge at 400 North.

Davis County is having UDOT install another DDI at 2600 South in Bountiful.

UDOT urges motorists to pay close attention to new signs and striping as they negotiate the interchange until they get use to the new roads.
