OGDEN, Utah -- A "Last Roll Call and Fallen Soldier Ceremony" was held in Ogden Sunday ahead of Memorial Day and despite the inclement weather.

A local branch of Utah Veterans of Foreign Wars participated in the ceremony at Evergreen Memorial Park, 100 Monroe Blvd. in Ogden, and photos show the ceremony carrying on despite heavy rain and even hail.

Dennis Howland,Vietnam Veterans of America, spoke about the value of such events.

"It's about remembering old comrades and family members that have served this country in the past years," he said.

Sunday's event is one of three, as the group placed flags on grave sites at Leavitt's Cemetery on Saturday and will also gather Monday for a flag raising and wreath laying ceremony at the grave site of Cpl. Fred J. Grant, who the Ogden VFW Post 1481 is named for, according to a press release from VFW Post 1481.
