SYRACUSE, Utah - A horse, valued at about $10,000, has been found dead and now Syracuse officials are investigating the suspicious circumstances.

Syracuse Police said the body of the Registered Thoroughbred Brood Mare was found Thursday evening near 2600 W. and 2850 South.

Authorities arrived to find the horse on the ground with a wound to its side.

Erin Behm with Syracuse Police said the injury is behind the horse's front leg.

She said it is not an animal bite or a slash type of cut, it is more of a hole. The injury was described as being a puncture wound shaped like an x.

The horse owner told police they last saw the animal alive at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

However, Davis County Animal Control officials said they believe the horse was injured just hours before the thoroughbred was found at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Syracuse Police said they would like to speak with anyone who might have information in the death of the horse at (801) 825-4400.
